Restyled front and rear adds length to dynamic design and new multimedia system offers enhanced functionality for the new Prius

Toyota has refreshed its pioneering Prius with a new sense of style and more advanced technology. With cleaner and more engaging lines, the Toyota hybrid halo five-door hatch features new front and rear treatments and sharper, sleeker headlights and rear combination lights.

Inside, the Prius cabin incorporates design tweaks to improve ergonomics, new cloth upholstery and a substantially upgraded multimedia system with advanced functionality to help drivers stay connected while on the road.

Toyota Vice President Sales and Marketing Sean Hanley said the Prius hatch had long been the standard-bearer for Toyota’s advanced petrol-electric hybrid technology and this latest styling and technology update would add to its appeal.

“This update to the fourth generation model that brings with it enhanced contemporary styling and the latest multimedia technology will add more customer appeal to the Prius hatch, ensuring it continues to contribute to Toyota’s dominance of the hybrid vehicle market,” he said.

The updated Prius hatch features

  • restyled front and rear bumpers that give it a more dynamic flowing appearance that is further enhanced by its slightly longer (+35mm) overall length.
  • new slimline headlights with bi-beam LEDs and a revised lower intake which accentuate the sharper, sleeker aesthetic.
  • new combination LED lights mirror the shape of the headlights by introducing a more horizontal look to emphasise the car’s width and low centre of gravity, at the rear.
  • refreshed 15-inch and 17-inch alloy wheels.
  • the latest generation Toyota multimedia system with 10-speaker JBL® audio and an advanced seven-inch touchscreen that enables pinch, swipe and flick gestures
  • AM/FM/DAB+1 radio, USB and Aux inputs2, full Bluetooth® connectivity, satellite navigation3 with SUNA™ live traffic alerts4, voice recognition, and Toyota Link5 apps including weather, fuel finder and travel times6.
  • improved voice recognition with a broader range of commands including the ability to set an address while driving and option to search through local points of interest by business name or category.
  • new applications including Siri®7 eyes-free mode for iPhones® and Miracast™, which can allow compatible smartphone screens to be duplicated onto the touchscreen.
  • a redesigned centre console that incorporates two cupholders, seat heating switches and a wireless phone charger8.
  • an abundance of advanced safety technology in its Toyota Safety Sense suite of features9 that includes active cruise control, pre-collision safety system, lane departure alert with steering assist and auto high beam, together with reversing camera and seven airbags.

The Prius uses a 15-inch aluminium wheel with a redesigned 10-spoke aerodynamic silver cover while the Prius i-Tech features 17-inch five-spoke alloys in a new titanium-like paint and black finish.

The updated Prius hatch is also available in two new exterior metallic paint finishes, Feverish Red and Blue Gem.

Complementing the exterior refresh, the interior of the upgraded Prius features new black cloth upholstery while the i-Tech variant maintains its premium leather-accented seats.
